A Missionary's Month: May 2008

Thu, 08 May 2008 - 11:20 AM CST

Hello again, friends.

Fun and energetic, though malnourished (but still receiving free rice and vitamins from the ministry), five-year-old John Kyle could be found attending Family Circus every Sunday, learning about Jesus and memorizing the Scriptures along with the other children. Each week our practice is that we give everyone—young and old—the opportunity to invite Jesus into their hearts and to ask His forgiveness for their sins. But no one needs to wait to go to church to say they are sorry. We never know when it will be our last opportunity to tell a child of the free gift Jesus offers to everyone, and that Jesus is preparing for us a permanent home in heaven.

Rice & VitaminsJohn Kyle’s last Sunday at Family Circus has passed. We have no more time left to teach him about Jesus’ love. When the jeepney (a public transportation vehicle here in the Philippines) ran over him, John woke up walking on heaven’s streets of gold. The driver sped off, fleeing the scene—a hit and run. Now as weird to me as it sounds, some people do not believe that kids like John can invite Jesus into their heart or that they need to. Wrong! Kids John’s age know when they do something wrong, and they know they need to say they’re sorry. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, for to such is the Kingdom of heaven…” Matthew 19:14. John ran out of time here on Earth, but he has unending time in heaven.

We never know when our last opportunity will be with these precious kids. For John Kyle, he’s in Heaven. Family Circus played an important part in making sure he was ready to go. Thank you for giving to Speed the Light so that we have the tools needed to reach children like John. You are helping to make all this possible.

In it for the King & His kids,

Darrell & Sandy Blatchley

P.S. For six weeks team after team arrived to help us build the bakery/cafeteria. The progress was amazing. Thank you to so many who are sacrificing to make this dream of a cafeteria bakery to feed the hungry and malnourished a reality.
