February 20, 2009 - Assemblies of God national youth ministries announces the appointment of Chet Caudill, District Youth (DYD) and Christian Education Director of the Appalachian District as the new director of Speed the Light/Student Missions.
As Student Missions director Caudill will provide oversight and administration to Speed the Light, the youth-initiated ministry that provides transportation and communications equipment to missionaries across the nation and in over 194 countries around the world. This leadership involves an extensive speaking schedule, which includes churches, conventions, camps and leadership conferences.
Also, Caudill will oversee Ambassadors in Mission (AIM), the short-term youth missions program of the Assemblies of God.
Caudill, who grew up as a pastor’s kid in Culpeper, Virg., began preaching at age 17. He has 15 years combined experience serving as youth pastor, evangelist and in various capacities in the local church and district.
During his 4-year tenure as DYD, STL giving has grown significantly in the Appalachian District to an average of over $1,200 per church. In 2008, STL experienced a record-giving year in the district. Now, the Appalachian District averages over $80 per student in STL giving, almost four times the national average of $23 per student.
Caudill completed his ministerial studies through Global University and is continuing his education through the distance-learning program at Southwestern Assemblies of University (Waxahachie, Tex.).
Caudill will transition to his new post in the national youth ministries office in May.
Of Caudill’s appointment, National Youth Director Jay Mooney says, “Chet and [wife] Susanna are a tremendous addition to the NYM team. Their ministry will reach far and wide in mobilizing a generation of youth in ministry toward the divine call upon this fellowship to carry the gospel around the world.”
Caudill and Susanna have three children: Chez, Cruz and Canta.
DEAR FRIENDS OF SPEED THE LIGHT:
The official 2008-09 theme for Speed the Light is "EXTRAORDINARY." We believe God is raising up an army of ordinary students who will do extraordinary things for His kingdom. Please join with us as we pursue our responsibility to provide our missionaries with the “essential transportation and creative communication” they need for effective evangelism. Set aside a special service to feature the ministry of Speed the Light and highlight those who are giving their lives to serve in mission fields here and abroad. Challenge your congregation to partner with the youth in your church to give so that our missionaries can be equipped to take the gospel to the “ends of the earth.”
Watch the theme video! Extraordinary!
STL Day is officially the 3rd Sunday of October, but you can choose any day for your missions service. The following resources are available to help you plan a significant and successful Speed the Light service. This is not a complete service plan, but components you may find helpful. May God bless you and your church as you give sacrificially.
Dream big! Hundreds of our AG missionaries around the world and even here in the U.S. have shared testimonies about how STL has impacted their ministry and helped them reach thousands more people with the gospel message. Join us as we fervently pursue the mission of Speed the Light, to see “souls saved and lives changed.”
